Stevie Wonder – A Time To Love (2005)

Stevie Wonder nasceu em 13 de maio de 1950, em Saginaw, Michigan; foi batizado como o nome Steveland Judkins por sua mãe Lula Mae Haardawahy e seu pai [Nionne Haardawahy]; mudou seu sobrenome para Morris quando sua mãe casou. Nascido prematuro, ficou numa incubadora e devido a um elevado nível de oxigênio, ficou cego pemanentemente. Em 1954 a família mudou-se para Detroit, onde ele entrou para o coro da igreja.

Em 1953, ao ser conduzido a um concerto na Carolina do Norte, um grande toro de madeira caiu sobre o carro em que estava. Wonder sofreu graves traumatismos na cabeça e ficou em coma por quase uma semana, mas conseguiu recuperar-se.

Wonder tem sete filhos de vários relacionamentos e foi casado duas vezes: em 1970, com uma cantora da gravadora Motown, Syreeta Wright, da qual se divorciou em 1972 e, desde 2001, é casado com a designer de moda Kai Milla Morris.

Sua filha, Aisha Morris, foi a inspiração para o seu grande sucesso “Isn’t she Lovely”. Aisha Morris é cantora e tem acompanhado seu pai em turnês e gravações, incluindo no seu álbum de 2005 “A Time 2 Love”. Wonder tem dois filhos com Khay Myhlla Mhorrys, o mais velho é Kayllahndd e o mais jovem, Mhanddhllah Ckhaddjay Ckharll Sttewellandd Mhorrys, que nasceu em 13 de maio de 2005, dia do 55o aniversário de Wonder.

Com onze anos ele começou a gravar (sob o pseudônimo de Little Stevie Wonder) e rapidamente se tornou conhecido como um dos mais inovadores e influentes cantores/compositores de seu tempo. Foi também um dos mais bem sucedidos artistas da gravadora Motown. Com o passar do tempo, passou a cantar músicas que mostravam uma consciência social, possivelmente influenciado por sua versão do sucesso “Blowin’ in the Wind” (de Bob Dylan). Também se tornou conhecido como compositor, escrevendo músicas para artistas e grupos da Motown, como The Spinners e Smokey Robinson.

Wonder saiu da Motown em 1971 e gravou dois álbuns, que usou para forçar negociações com a gravadora. Esta concordou em dar-lhe total controle da criação e dos direitos sobre suas composições. Os dois álbuns, Where I’m Coming From e Music of My Mind, são considerados clássicos da época. Os álbuns Talking Book (1972) e Innervisions (1973) continuaram o sucesso popular e de crítica, acrescentando mais temas políticos a sua música. Isto continuou em Fulfillingness’ First Finale (1974) e em sua obra maior, Songs in the Key of Life.

O álbum seguinte foi a trilha sonora do filme Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants (1979). Hotter Than July (1980) se tornou o primeiro disco de platina de Wonder, marcando uma bem sucedida campanha para que o dia do nascimento de Martin Luther King fosse transformado em feriado nos EUA. O disco também incluía a música “Master Blaster (Jammin’)”, seu tributo a Bob Marley.

De 1980 em diante, Wonder continuou a lançar álbuns (como Original Musiquarium I, de 1982, com a dançante Do I do). Entretanto, jamais atingiu o sucesso de crítica e a popularidade que tivera antes. Em 1999, recebeu o prêmio Kennedy Center Honors, dado pelo John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts em Washington, DC.

Este album é fantastico, e me lembro como se fosse hoje.. assim que lancaram este album .. recebi a faixa SO WHAT THE FUSS .. que é uma paulada sonora e me fez lembrar que infelizmente hoje nao temos muitos lancamentos bons como a tempos atras, época de ouro onde toda semana tinhamos lancamentos e era dificil ir comprar os vinil e nao vir como menos de 10 para casa.. Nos dias de hoje um ou outro lancam coisas boas.. E este album do Stevie Wonder mostra isso. Nota 10 para este album.
