Nascido em Rio Claro (SP) e radicado em Nova York desde 1973, o pianista Salvador da Silva Filho, o Dom Salvador, morou em São Paulo entre 1961 e 1964. Pouco tempo, mas o suficiente para ter boas recordações. Na época, ele aproveitava bem a boemia da cidade em jam sessions noites adentro. “Tocávamos até as 8 da manhã”, recorda. Em 1965, quando já vivia no Rio de Janeiro, ele voltou para se casar na Igreja Nossa Senhora do Brasil — e teve Elis Regina no papel de madrinha. Hoje, aos 71 anos, quando aparece aproveita para visitar os parentes. É o que pretende fazer depois de se exibir no Bourbon Street à frente de Rodrigo Ursaia (sax), Mauricio Zottarelli (bateria) e Itaiguara Brandão (baixo). Em formato de aula-show, sua rara apresentação integra a série Sala do Professor Buchanan’s, comandada por Daniel Daibem e transmitida pela rádio Eldorado FM.

Competente músico de estúdio, Dom Salvador tocou piano em Jesus Cristo, incluída no álbum de Roberto Carlos de 1970, e gravou com Elis, Edu Lobo, Mário Reis, Zé Keti e outros. Também liderou a banda Abolição, com a qual registrou o cultuado LP Som, Sangue e Raça, tornando-se um pioneiro do samba funkeado. Só foi se apresentar no Brasil de novo em 2003, trinta anos após acompanhar Nara Leão no Rio; retornou depois em mais duas ocasiões. “Continuei visitando o país, mas, como trabalhava muito em Nova York, não marcava shows aqui.” No repertório da vez, calcado em samba-jazz, há composições suas como East River Blues e Clauditi, além de Mariá, tema em homenagem a sua mulher, com quem se casou na igreja do Jardim América.

A família Original (Celso ) representou e aproveitou a aula-show do mestre.

O baixista fez parte da melhor formação da lendária banda funk americana

Marvin Isley, ex-baixista da lendária banda funk/soul americana The Isley Brothers, morreu neste domingo (6) em Chicago, nos Estados Unidos. As causas não foram informadas até o momento. Ele tinha 56 anos de idade.

A entrada de Marvin na banda dos irmãos mais velhos Ronald, O’Kelly Jr. e Rudolph ocorreu em 1973, quando o grupo já tinha 14 anos de estrada. Ele, o outro mano Ernie (guitarra) e o primo Chris Jasper (teclados) entraram juntos no time e ajudaram a banda a ganhar uma nova face.

A nova escalação dos Isley Brothers estreou no álbum 3+3, e se mostrou espetacular. Rapidamente, eles se tornaram uma das melhores bandas de funk e soul dos Estados Unidos, com direito a sucessos como Who’s That Lady, Fight The Power, For The Love Of You e Between The Sheets, só para citar alguns.

Em 1984, Marvin, Ernie e Jasper saíram para montar o trio Isley-Jasper-Isley, cujo maior sucesso é a cançãoCaravan Of Love. Ernie voltou aos Isley Brothers nos anos 90, enquanto Marvin partiu para outros trabalhos. Ele era considerado um dos melhores baixistas da música negra norte-americana.

CNN) — Marvin Isley, youngest member of the soulful Isley Brothers R&B group, has died from complications with diabetes, hospital officials said Monday. He was 56.
Isley passed away Sunday morning at the Seasons Hospice within Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, according to representatives at both facilities.
The original group formed in 1954 with the three eldest brothers Isley — O’Kelly Jr., Rudolph and Ronald — which recorded several singles, including “Shout,” “This Old Heart of Mine” and the Grammy-winning “It’s Your Thing.” Marvin Isley joined in 1973, when the group expanded to six performers.
The full group enjoyed massive radio airplay with lists of hits, including “That Lady,” “The Heat is On,” “Go For Your Guns” and “Fight the Power.”
The Isley Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Marvin retired from performing five years later, and eventually diabetes led him to have both legs amputated.
