Morreu neste sábado (9), na Holanda, aos 70 anos, o músico norte- americano Solomon Burke, conhecido como o “Rei do rock e do soul” e autor de clássicos como Evedybody Needs Somebody To Love, tema do filme The Blue Brothers de 1980 e Cry to Me, do filme Darty Dancing. Burke morreu de causas desconhecidas quando chegava em Amsterdã em um vôo vindo de Los Angeles. Ele faria um show na capital holandesa na próxima terça-feira (12).
O músico ganhou o Grammy por duas vezes. Ele também compôs a música I Have a Dream, em homenagem a Martin Luther King. Em 2002, lançou o álbum Don’t Give Up On Me, que contou com artistas como Bob Dylan, Elvis Costelo, Van Morrison, Brian Wilson, Tom Waits e Nick Lowe. No total, foram 35 álbuns gravados e mais de 17 milhões de discos vendidos.
O cantor tinha 21 filhos, 90 netos e 19 bisnetos.
