Marlena Shaw
Essa quebra tudo!!!!!
Marlena Shaw
Real Name:Marlina BurgessProfile:Marlena Shaw, born 22nd September 1942, New Rochelle, New York, U.S.A.
Beginning as a soul artist on the Bluenote label in the early 1970’s, Marlena’s strong voice quickly establised her on the US soul scene.
By the mid 1970’s the disco scene was beginning to influence the sound of Bluenote and it was here that Marlena relesed “It’s better than walking out”, which was the first 12″ on the Bluenote label.
Switching to Columbia records in 1977 ensured better record sales; her first album here includes the disco track “Pictures and memories”. Marlena, however, will best be remembered by disco fans for her cover version of Diana Ross’s “Touch me in the morning” - the disco medley on the LP includes several late 1960’s and early 1970’s soul tunes. Listen out for “Love dancin’” and “Haven’t we been in love before”.

Michael Jackson

Ele ainda apareceu em dois filmes: Krush Groove e The Show.

Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson, the singer, songwriter and dancer who earned the title “King of Pop†in a career that reached unprecedented peaks of sales and attention, died Thursday at 1:07 p.m. Pacific time, a Los Angeles city official confirmed. He was 50.
The circumstances of Mr. Jackson’s death were not immediately clear. He was unconscious when rushed to UCLA Medical Center on Thursday afternoon by paramedics who performed C.P.R., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Mr. Jackson’s 1982 album “Thriller†is the best-selling album of all time, claiming global sales of more than 100 million copies. But Mr. Jackson was a star before and after “Thriller,†from his days as the piping lead singer of the Jackson 5 to his increasingly bitter final albums. He was forever a paradox: a precocious child star, a childlike grown-up, a superhumanly skilled performer who always appeared vulnerable, a figure who pursued worldwide fame only to find himself besieged and embittered by media attention. In the 1980’s, he was the embodiment of American pop success, with his ubiquitous hits and video clips, his one white glove and his moonwalk, dancing across stages and heard on radio worldwide. But that success could not last forever, and Mr. Jackson struggled in its aftermath.

Dyke and the Blazers
Dyke and the Blazers
Legendary funkateers on the LA-based Original Sound imprint, Dyke and the Blazers are most easily accessed through their 45s since their LPs were so few and far between. This LP has most of their big 45 hits, including “Funky Broadway Pt. 1 & 2″, “Uhh Pt. 1 & 2″ as well as “So Sharp” and “Don’t Bug Me.” The butter cut though is the LP-only “Broadway Combination”, which snaps off with a vicious drumbreak. In general, it’s very Å’60s era soul/funk  similar to what James Brown was kicking off in the same time era.
Formed 1964
Disbanded 1971
Arlester ‘Dyke’ Christian was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1943.
In the middle of the Sixties Dyke found himself singing and playing bass with the O’Jays backing band, the Blazers.
He and some of the other Blazers were stranded in Phoenix when the O’Jay’s couldn’t afford to bring them back to Buffalo, thus the Blazers based themselves in Phoenix.
Their song, ‘Funky Broadway’ was released on the Phoenix indie Artco in 1966, although it was later released on the Original Sound label. In the late ’60’s and early ’70’s.
Dyke and the band issued a series of funk singles and were possibly one of the first acts to utilise the term ‘funk’.
He issued several two-part singles and for some of his sessions, Dyke recorded in Los Angeles with musicians who would later play in the Watts 103rd Street Band (guitarist Al McKay would later be in Earth, Wind & Fire).
Rumours stated that most of the singles came from 15-to-20-minute sessions that were edited down to a length that could fit on the 45 rpm format.
Dyke & the Blazers had Top Ten R & B singles with ‘We Got More Soul’ and ‘Let a Woman Be a Woman, Let a Man Be a Man’ in 1969, along with several less successful recordings ‘Uhh’, ‘You Are My Sunshine’, and ‘Runaway People’.
Dyke Christian, sadly, was fatally shot on the street in Phoenix on the 13th of March 1971.

Dude sounds like a lady: Arnold Blair
Arnold Blair was a singer signed to Curtis Mayfield’s Curtom Records during the label’s most creatively fertile period in the early 1970s–its roster included Linda Clifford, The Natural Four, June Conquest, The Notations, and the great, under-extolled singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Leroy Hutson, who co-wrote with Blair 1975’s “Trying To Get Next To You”:

Millie Jackson & Issac Hayes - Royal Rappin’s 1979
Royal Rappin’s certainly looks great on paper it’s the pairing of two of music’s most loquacious and sexually geared acts, Millie Jackson and Isaac Hayes but despite all its potential, the album doesn’t impress quite like it could have. A few years earlier, Hayes recorded a live double album with Dionne Warwick and the sparks were more than genuine. With Jackson and the declining Muscle Shoals sound though, it seems more like a terrible blind date that can’t end soon enough. Part of the problem is that Hayes doesn’t have any production duties and is basically dropped into a Millie Jackson album. There are a few good moments, however. “Sweet Music, Soft Lights and You” manages to capture a groove that complements their styles. Still, the pointless covers and underdone originals sink this like a stone. The slightly perked-up “You Needed Me” is weird and the disco-fied “Feels Like the First Time” is surreal. Although Hayes and Jackson’s legend of gab preceded them, the chatter here is forced and annoying, especially on “If I Had My Way” and “If You Had Your Way.” Unfortunately, Royal Rappin’s captures the worst of two great soul artists.

The Spinners - 2 nd Time Around
In 1954 a group of friends who grew up together in Royal Oak Township, Michigan, just outside Detroit, came together to make music. Billy Henderson, Henry Fambrough, Pervis Jackson, C. P. Spencer, and James Edwards called themselves The Domingoes. James Edwards lasted only a few weeks; he was replaced by Bobbie Smith, who sang lead on most of the Spinners’ early records (and many of their biggest Atlantic hits). C. P. Spencer left the group shortly afterwards, and would later go on to be a member of the Voice Masters and The Originals. He was replaced by George Dixon. The group renamed themselves The Spinners in 1961. This name was chosen after looking at popular car hubcaps and noting how they spun around on a car’s wheel.
The Spinners now
After their chart career ended, The Spinners continued touring for decades. Even though their last hits were almost 25 years ago, the bright lights of their 1972–1976 run of the charts continues to provide for the current members. They are big draws on the oldies and nostalgia concert circuits, and continue to play the music that made them famous.
A voice from their past, G. C. Cameron, would rejoin the group as lead vocalist from 2000 to 2002, (replacing Jonathan Edwards, who left due to illness) but he left them in 2003 to join The Temptations. Frank (Charlton) Washington, formerly of The Futures and The Delfonics, is now the lead vocalist.
In 2004, original member Billy Henderson was dismissed from the group after suing the group’s corporation and business manager to obtain financial records. He was replaced by Harold “Spike” Bonhart. Henderson died due to complications from diabetes on February 2, 2007 at the age of 67. (Early member C.P. Spencer had already died from a heart attack on October 20, 2004.)
In their box set, The Chrome Collection, The Spinners were lauded by David Bowie and Elvis Costello. The Spinners were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. On July 27, 2006, The Spinners performed on The Late Show With David Letterman.
The group lost another member from their starting days when Pervis Jackson, who was still touring as a member of the group, died of cancer on August 18, 2008.[3]
The group continued for a short time as a quartet before Jessie Robert Peck (born in Queens, New York, December 17, 1968) was recruited as the group’s new bass vocalist in February 2009.
The group is actively touring with two of its surviving original members (Fambrough and Smith).
Product Description
Japanese only pressing. The Spinners’ 2nd Time Around (1970) was actually their debut long-player for the short-lived V.I.P. subsidiary of Motown Records. The Second Time referred to in the title indicates the quintet’s new direction, which was considerably funkier than the group’s former R&B persona. The album likewise marked the final contributions of G.C. Cameron, who himself was the latest in a line of replacements that began when George W. Dixon made way for Edgar Chico Edwards in 1961. Universal. 1995.

Jackson Sister
An amazing bit of soul — and one of the rarest records of the 70s! This masterpiece was recorded by The Jackson Sisters, a semi-gospelly soul group that has a sound that’s a bit like The Voices of East Harlem, but which is a lot harder, and that has a deeper soul sound to it. At times, the group is funky — as on their incredible track “I Believe In Miracles”, a rare groove classic if there ever was one, and one of the most in-demand tracks we’ve ever stocked. At other times, the girls have a mellower soul sound, with great raw harmonies that remind us of the Volt work by The Emotions, but with much rougher instrumental backing. This album’s the only one they ever cut — and it’s just about impossible to find in the original pressing (and in fact, we’ve never seen a copy!) Apart from the amazing cut “Miracles”, this one includes loads of gems like “Rockin’ On My Porch”, “Shake Her Loose”, “(Why Can’t We Be) More Than Just Friends”, and “Boy, You’re Dynamite”!

JackMcDuff - Sophisticated Funk
Dusty Groove have to say on the subject:
A lost electric groover from Brother Jack McDuff! Although this album got a bad rap in an early issue of Grand Royal as one of the “10 Most Disappointing Albums with Good Covers of All Time” (or something like that), it’s actually a pretty groovy album that has Brother Jack playing electric keyboards amidst uptempo arrangements by Billy Jones of Brother To Brother (who were sharing the All Platinum umbrella label at the time with McDuff). Sure, the record’s got a groovy cover of a nude model with a “digital” chastity belt over her cleanly-shaved privates (which might imply to some that the record would be a total funk LP), and the sound is a bit more like uptempo club jazz. But even if the cover and music don’t match, the record’s a nice groover that has Jack trying to hit the same sort of style that Johnny Hammond was getting with Larry Mizell.

Grover Washington Jr 1973 Soul Box
Magic”, “Black Frost”.Além disso, ele tocou muito com outros artistas, incluindo Bill Withers “Just the Two of Us” e Phyllis Hyman “A Kind of Sacred Love” entre outros.

Soul Expedition
Born in Atlanta, GA in 1947, Freddie Terrell was born into a musical family. His mother was in The Every Ready Gospel Singers with her 2 sisters and mother while his father Johnny was in an alkl male group called The Southern Belles. He would be hired (he wanted to be in a group so bad but had to wait) at age 12 or 13 as a guitarist in his father’s band. He would get into secular music through Jazz, and a band in school called The New Breed. They played Jazz favorites of the time, and then Freddie moved on to R& B through his friend Jay Floyd. Floyd played bass with Lee Moses in a band called the Showstoppers. It was here Terrell could let it all hang out, something Christian music did not allow guitarwise. Terrell played the club scene with Moses, playing with jamming such as Mighty Hannibal, Calvin Arnold (who produced this record), and even Jimi Hendrix, who was in town playing with the Isley Brothers. Freddie played on many of Lee Moses ( Musicor, Dynamo) and Hermon Hitson ( Minit, Atco), and went on to make music further with Mighty Hannibal, Major Lance, and Wilson Pickett. The latter two he would go on tour with, most notably with the Wicked One. Terrell worked the Chitlin’ Circuit in Pickett’s band, touring extensively with the who’s who of R & B in the 60’s. After his time with Pickett he released “You Had It Made†on Capitol with The Blue Rhytym Band, and later went on to form The Soul Expedition. A church based band, they would play in church but also back major players when they came through. Their debut on Lefevre was pressed in small quantities and is definitely sought after. The Soul Expedition were reissued by Jazzman many years after. As the music progressed to Disco, the Soul Expedition went their separate ways, with Terrell, the master guitar player, working as a sideman once again for many years This very record is what Freddie is best known for. He continues to play music today, some 40 years plus since he started.
